Rhodolite Garnet

Rhodolite Garnet Ring and why it might be the engagement ring you’re looking for

Rhodolite garnet rings are a great choice for any kind of ring, even if they’re not as popular as diamonds or sapphires. Various silicate materials combine to form a garnet, and rhodolite is a variant of garnet that is made from a mineral known as pyrope. The name rhodolite references its rose-like colouration.

Is a Rhodolite garnet considered to be a precious gem?

The Rhodolite garnet is a precious gem thanks to various factors such as its evocative red-pink hue, the accessibility of rhodolite stones that have no visible inclusions and its rarity, being difficult to find outside of the Mozambique belt.

How can you tell a good Rhodolite garnet?

There are several factors associated with the colour that determine a Rhodolite garnet’s value. These factors include:

  • The tone of the red purple gem and the intensity of its colour (i.e. not too dark or too bright)
  • The incandescence of the gem underneath various light sources
  • The number of imperfections such as cracks, pockets of air or liquid, needles, etc.
  • The quality of the cut
  • Its weight in carats

Rhodolite garnet is a fairly resilient gem, ranking a 7-7.5 on Mohs scale of hardness, a scale developed by German geologist and mineralogist Friedrich Mohs in 1812. While not as durable as diamonds or sapphires, the rhodolite gemstone is still highly-resistant, and a rhodolite garnet ring is certainly a long lasting ring.

Does Rhodolite garnet fade?

The chemical structure of the garnet including the aspects that lend its colour are permanent so the colour will never fade and you’ll always have the eye-catching quality of the reds, pinks and purples of your Rhodolite garnet ring.

Which stone can be worn with a Rhodolite garnet ring?

The intense red colour of Rhodolite garnet rings work perfectly with gems such as yellow sapphires or the orange colour of the mandarin garnet to create a warm palette, as well as more neutral coloured gemstones such as diamonds in order to further accentuate the garnet. Rhodolite garnets also work well with gemstones that feature a deeper red such as rubies.
